How to change rear drum brake shoes on shaft drive motorcycle?

I recently purchased a 1981 yamaha seca 750 that nees new shoes on the rear brake. I am wondering if this is a tough thing to do and if I need to take the back tire off to do this?
I'm with Choppy & Bear. If you attempt to perform this work without a manual and only use advice from an internet posting well...who's the fool?
