I have a perfectly round rotor with holes on the brake surface (Tektro Io). I sometimes see "irregular" shaped rotors: polygonal rotors and cut-out edge rotors (some Shimano and Avid rotors). What is the difference? Which one is better?
Keep in mind that the brake pads contact the side of the rotor, not the edge.
The different shapes are to try and cut weight or to allow the brand to be identified from distance.
