What are some industrial uses for activated carbon water filters?

I'm doing a science project for school and I need to know some ways in which these filters are used industrially or commercially to clean water, any help would be appreciated =).

Nata t is right but they also use it to filter water, the carbon makes the water clearer and less cloudy, its also used in fish tank filters
